• Dr. Ghaffarian founded and is Chairman of Axiom Space for which the mission is to advance the commercial utilization of space eventually leading to the design, manufacture, launch and operation of a commercial space station. The early scenario for the space station is to design, build, launch and operate a commercial multi-purpose module that begins its life attached to International Space Station. Once a thriving commercial space economy is established, a Space City will be developed, launched and assembled in Earth orbit in the 2040 timeframe

• In addition, Dr. Ghaffarian is also founder and Chairman of Intuitive Machines (IM) which was formed to commercialize NASA’s space technology. IM develops engineering solutions at the unimagined intersections between energy, medicine and aerospace. By leveraging state-of-the-art engineering tools and practices, integrated with current research and advanced technologies, IM arrives at original outcomes. IM has developed a line of commercial drones that may be flown autonomously beyond line-of-site that can be used to monitor vast geographical areas without refueling. IM is also working on a prototype for a moon-lander which will deliver payloads to the Moon beginning in 2021. Finally, IM has developed a commercial additive manufacturing (3D printing) capability which can create high tolerance aerospace parts at a fraction of the time and cost of using traditional manufacturing methods.

• Dr. Ghaffarian also founded and Chairman of X-Energy (XE). XE’s vision is to be the world’s leading provider of highly innovative, 100% safe, and environmentally friendly small-scale nuclear energy solutions for government, industry, and private consumers. XE is commercializing and deploying a High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR): the Xe-100. The Xe-100 reactor series will produce zero-emission energy around the clock to ensure reliable electricity that can be adapted to a variety of markets. XE is also developing a smaller portable reactor that may be used by the US Government to power critical bases and facilities around the world.

In addition, a sister company, TRISO-X is developing and producing accident tolerant nuclear reactor fuel using innovative processes that greatly increase reactor safety. In addition to his numerous commercial endeavors Dr. Ghaffarian has formed the Emerging Light Foundation which is dedicated to improving the condition of humankind through a variety of charitable endeavors. One such project includes the formation and support of a school located in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. This school currently educates, feeds and clothes 700 students.
